Master Eugenio Celestino's 'textile art workshop' was established in the 1920s. The precious fabrics on traditional hand looms became popular at exhibitions and trade fairs, especially since 1959, when they were handed over to his son Mario, assisted by his wife Luigina Sapia. In this authentic museum-workshop in the heart of the historic centre of Longobucco, it is possible to follow the history of weaving through a fascinating journey with images, testimonies and creations of extraordinary interest.
The museum is divided into three sections marked by the traditions of wool, broom and silk (a production, the latter, that profoundly marked Calabria between the early and late Middle Ages and the splendour of the 16th century). Visiting it allows visitors to discover the complete production cycles of the three natural fibres: shearing tools, broom harvesting, silkworm cultivation, spinning, looms...
From the collection of tools, blankets, tapestries and linens that constituted the dowry of the girls, refined workmanship but also the identity traits of the local culture emerge.
The museum also documents prestigious Celestino collaborations, such as the one with the Fendi 'Maison'. The adjoining historical archive, with about a thousand documents, has had ministerial recognition of 'cultural interest' since 2017.
