The Cuti Bread Museum was born in 2018 from an idea of Antonio Alessio - co-owner of the homonymous bakery active since 1985 - assisted by his wife Pina Oliveti, an expert in local traditions. The project took shape when an important part of production was moved to new premises in the Piano Lago industrial area, a modern workshop but with strictly wood-burning and traditional ovens. This is where they set up the museum, in a large dedicated space full of photographs and rare antique artefacts relating to bread-making in the Savuto Valley and the entire production cycle. Visiting it means opening a treasure chest of history, with its social, economic and anthropological aspects. The itinerary, divided into various rooms, starts from the cultivation of cereals with a vast repertoire of period tools. The bread-making tradition lives on from sowing to reaping to threshing with a monumental Mansal threshing machine from the 1950s on display in the museum's outdoor area. There are also domestic granaries, woven baskets, majille (madie), entrusted to female hands as well as a loom from the late 18th century that tells the story of home weaving of sacks and cloths. The visit can end with an interactive experience in the Bakery workshop where it is possible to improvise oneself as a 'baker for a day'. The Museum, directed by Mara Alessio, has over the years qualified as a cultural space by hosting events, book presentations and exhibitions.
